Hello everyone!! Welcome to my weekly email list and email number 1! As most of you know, I started MTC this past Wednesday but it is completely online so I've been doing it from home in Santa Clarita. My MTC experience pretty much consists of two things, workshops and classes. Workshops are MTC-wide and are only an hour long each. I've been to three so far. One on Wednesday, one Thursday, and one Friday. A certain amount of workshops are required in the MTC depending on how long your training lasts. Since mine is 9 weeks, we have the most workshops. Each one is on a different subject, all based around helping us become better and more effective missionaries! I've really been enjoying them especially because there are usually around 360 missionaries in the zoom calls. It really helps me feel like I'm a part of a giant community. We're all in the same boat so to speak and we will all be supporting each other. My classes are three hours long each and we usually have two per day. My two teachers are Sister Ko, who teaches from 8-11, and Brother Ng (said like "ing"), who teaches from 1-4. They are both such great teachers and I feel like I've already learned so much! We haven't really learned any Cantonese yet, Brother Ng says that we start language study in week 3. But he likes to tell us random Cantonese words here and there or let us ask him how to say things. I'm definitely excited to learn more. My district, who I am with, consists of 9 people, including me. 8 are sisters (4 companionships), and then we have 1 elder. We are all going to the same mission! In companionships there is Sister Richardson and me, Sister Korth and Sister Johnson, Sister Whitney and Sister Decker, Sister Peterson and Sister Yamane, and Elder Ng (yes he's the younger brother of Brother Ng--who coincidentally served in the same mission--). They're all super awesome and because we spend 6 hours a day together, even over zoom, they already feel like family! Most of them are from Utah except Sister Yamane who's from Las Vegas, Elder Ng who's from Canada, and me. We've had lots of fun together doing activities and learning more about classes. When we're not doing classes, we're supposed to schedule time to do personal study, companion study, language study, and exercise. This fills up my days pretty quickly as you could imagine. With waking up at 6 and going to bed at 10, the days just fly by. As I've been trying to reread the Book of Mormon, I think that personal study will, and is already, helping me greatly. Dedicating an hour to just sit down and study makes a big difference in my efficiency. I've also been enjoying companion study with Sister Richardson. It's really nice to have someone to bounce ideas and thoughts off of as we study Preach My Gospel or the scriptures. Well, that's pretty much everything so far, but I will be sure to keep everyone updated! My pdays are on Saturdays while I'm in the MTC so you can expect my emails then! If you have any questions, feel free to email me! I'd love to email you back on my pdays. Stay safe everyone!
