January is back!

 大家好!新年快樂!🎉

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣2️⃣

It's really strange to think that it's January again and 2021 is already over! I'm so hyped for this year though! I know it's going to be great because I get to spend it continuing to serve the people of Hong Kong and growing myself as I do so 😊

This week was pretty chill but I'll tell you the deets.

On Monday we had a super fun day but I've been told that I can't disclose any further information so sorry about that! Just know that aside from the fun stuff we also got groceries and had some sweet weekly planning.

Tuesday we had interviews with President which was great! He gave me a lot of good insights about how to inspire the ward to do more missionary work and how to more naturally talk to strangers about the gospel. Other than that we also had a zone finding! We went down by Victoria Harbor and walked along the promenade and Sister Bohman and I actually had a really cool experience! We went up and started talking to this guy who was walking in our same direction and after I told him that we're learning Cantonese and like to talk to people to practice, he was super open to talking with us! He actually knew English as well because he went to college in England so that was cool! We talked for a solid 20 minutes, just walking down the promenade, and I was able to understand basically the whole conversation and also keep it going so that was amazing! Definitely a gift of tongues moment right there. Unfortunately right when we were going to talk about the gospel he had to leave but it was still such a great experience for me and I hope he remembers it as well! We talked to a few more people there but didn't have anything as cool happen. We did get to get ice cream at an ice cream truck before heading out though and that was a highlight of the day.

On Wednesday we had district council in Kwun Tong which was pretty cool except we got lost on the way there and ended up arriving 20 minutes late 😅. It's cool though because they were just playing a game while waiting for us. I gave the training on recognizing the promptings of the Holy Ghost and I think it went pretty okay honestly. After the training we played a game called Unstable Unicorns together which was super fun! Then we got lunch together (I got some spicy noodles) before we had a STEM finding activity! We had been passing out flyers for this activity for like a month so we were glad to finally do it. Basically we taught kids how to make rubber band cars. A ton of kids showed up so it was a little hectic but still super fun! I know that some missionaries were able to exchange numbers with parents or other parents expressed interest in future events so I'd say it was a success!

Thursday we had the same activity again but this time in Ho Man Tin and it went a lot better. There were less people so we were able to focus more on each individual and I think it went super well! I got to chat with one young girl who loves drawing and loves cats (and drawing cats) which was so fun! The car she designed of course looked like a cat but it was adorable and actually drove pretty well so I was proud. Sister Bohman was able to talk to the girl's mom a lot who asked the question "so what makes your church different from other Christian churches?" Golden! She said that she's not too interested in getting involved with a religion right now but we exchanged numbers with her and hopefully we'll be able to stay in contact with her! Other than that we also had a lesson over call with Yip Taai. It honestly went quite well and we got to talk a lot about her concerns with the Book of Mormon and help her with that which is great!

Friday we got to teach Chan jimuih and it was a very interesting lesson to say the least. We had a member fellowshipper come and it was good because they're both from mainland China so they have that in common but the downside to that was they both have weird accents. Apart from it being hard to understand, the member sister also spent most of the lesson examining Chan jimuih's health(?) She kept pressing different points on Chan jimuih's arms and legs and asking "痛唔痛?" (does it hurt?) She did this while we were trying to teach Chan jimuih and I think it was honestly pretty distracting. Somehow we got through the lesson though and Chan jimuih understood. She said that she's read the whole Book of Mormon! Let's gooo!! I can also tell that she already has great faith in God and Jesus Christ. She just doesn't think that she's gotten her answer yet that the Book of Mormon is true so we're continuing to encourage her and help her with that! We also had sports night that night as usual and that was so fun! We played some basketball and badminton and ate lots of apples 🍎

Saturday was awesome because we got to go over to our branch president's house for New Years day lunch! We went with a bunch of the Peninsula sisters and it was a blast! We had some really good food, played some fun games, and had apple pie to top it off! Definitely the highlight of the day!

And lastly Sunday was so good! We went to church early to film our spiritual breakfast (which will go up tomorrow so keep your eyes out) and then had two awesome fast and testimony meetings. Chan jimuih came to church again and we got to sit by her in Sunday school which was great and then in Peninsula we had THREE friends come! Our friend Emily, who we've been trying for a while to get to come, came and brought her cousin Georgie, and then our other friend Judy came for the first time too! I think they all really liked the meeting and want to come back soon! Georgie even said that she wants to take the discussions with us next time!! New year, new miracles! It was just such a great day. Other than church stuff and normal missionary work, we also had dinner together as an apartment which is always a blast 😁

That's pretty much it for this week so now for my spiritual thought!

Today I want to share a verse from Alma 18 and its verse 35

35 And a portion of that Spirit dwelleth in me, which giveth me knowledge, and also power according to my faith and desires which are in God.

When we center our desires in God then the Spirit is able to bless us with power and knowledge to accomplish anything! I know that sometimes life gets hard and you feel like you have no time to focus on your relationship with God, but I can promise you that life is a lot harder when you don't focus on it! He will give you power to get through everything you're dealing with. All you have to do is have faith and work to act on that faith each day. I invite each of you in this new year to think of what you can do to focus more on God 😊

I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week and an amazing start to the new year! 加油!
