Goodbye Kowloon Bay

 大家好! Hello everyone!

This week was pretty interesting because it was transfer week! So essentially I did a lot of packing and unpacking. But fear not, there was plenty of room for some great missionary work as well! 😁

Let's start with Monday. For pday we didn't do anything crazy, actually we mostly stayed in all day, but we did go out to get takeout lunch and groceries. I had some seafood soup that was quite delicious I must say. And then I got to play some D&D!!💪🐉⚔ It was over zoom, granted, but it was still fun! Definitely looking forward to continuing that!

On Tuesday it was the first day of Chinese New Year and we had a 2 and a half hour zone council over zoom which was pretty crazy haha. We talked about a lot of good stuff like how we can continue to improve in our finding and proselyting work under the current restrictions. We also got to play a zone game of hot seat which is always fun 😁. Then after that we had LPOs! I did the Faith and Repentance principles from the Gospel of Jesus Christ lesson and I did better than I thought honestly (considering I didn't really prepare 😅). I still need to work on it a bit but I know I can get it next time. Other than that our day was pretty chill, we just did some good facebook finding and weekly planning.

On Wednesday Sister Bohman and I got to leave the apartment, yay!! Our water filter exploded for the third time so we needed to get a new one 😅 Since we were out and about though, we also stopped by Taste (awesome grocery store) for lunch and I got their chicken tikki masala pizza which SLAPS. After eating at the church, we ended up calling one of our friends, Jocelyn, with a bunch of other sisters and having a super awesome lesson! The first time we taught her was last Sunday and she said that she'd already read the first two chapters of the Book of Mormon! Yes! let's go Jocelyn!!! We taught her the first half of the Plan of Salvation lesson and she asked some really great questions! I'm so excited for her to continue to learn more 😊 After the lesson with her, we filmed our English spiritual breakfast which went up on Friday morning and it's pretty awesome so if you haven't seen it yet then I highly recommend you give it a watch 😌. After finishing that, we had a great call with a member who helped us with our Cantonese and then we headed back home. We had a really awesome member lesson over phone call and then we had a super fun 3 hour long, Chinese New Year apartment FHE! We made dinner together and had stir fry and cream cheese wontons which was all soooo good. We also got to try some traditional Chinese candy which was a bit weird because it was basically just random stuff crystallized in sugar. Like I ate a sugared carrot. Wacky. Then we did some cool traditional Chinese calligraphy called fai cheun! It was like writing messages of blessings and stuff like that. So fun! Definitely a great day.

Thursday was pretty slow and we didn't really do too much. We had our studies and did lots of contacting and then also got to do some call finding and Facebook finding. Call finding is always fun because we meet weird people or get hung up on. But then we got to have another member lesson with a brother named Yeuhg Hingdaih which was cool. He's a funny guy. Then that night was transfer calls!! Sister Bohman is going to be staying here and training a new missionary who's a native and I'm going to be moving to Hong Kong Island! I'll be serving in a ward called West Point and my new companion is one of the only buhn deih (native) sisters left in the mission, Sister Ho. I'm going to miss Kowloon City and Peninsula and their members so much but at the same time I'm so excited to see what this next transfer will bring!

On Friday we had two members help us out with our Cantonese and we got to talk to one of our less active friends which was awesome! I got to pack most of my stuff and then we did some facebook and call finding as well. One of the calls that I did was actually so cool! This lady was super nice to me and let me chat with her for like 15 minutes! I got the opportunity to tell her about eternal families and how God is our Heavenly Father and it was so awesome! She said that she's really busy with work and everything right now so she doesn't know when she'll be free but she said that we could text her! I don't know if she'll actually be able to be taught but fingers crossed! 🤞

On Saturday we got to leave the apartment again! Yay! We went to Ho Man Tin and helped a really sweet high school girl with her English and it was so fun! After that I got to go home and pack some more and then we did more call finding. The FUNNIEST THING happened while call finding. We called someone who's name was literally Fish. I showed Sister Bohman the name and we were both like ?? I tried calling anyways though and when someone picked up I was like " 喂?請問係唔係Fish?" (Hello? May I ask, is this Fish?) Then there was a long pause...and then they hung up. Sister Bohman and I died laughing, it was too good 🤣.

Now Sunday was ~transfers~ so crazy! We had a pretty normal morning with our two zoom testimony meetings and I got to share my last testimonies which was nice for me. Then we dropped off Sister Bohman with some other sisters who are training and I got to chill with Sister Evans and Sister Yamane at the apartment until our ride came to take us to Kowloon Tong. We left the house with all of our luggage to go and find the van, but when we stopped to looked at the map (and we were more than halfway there at this point), we saw a text saying that they would actually be back where we started. I thought I was going to die that day, my arms were so tired from pulling three heavy suitcases across such a long distance. We finally got safely in the van though and on the drive to Kowloon Tong we had a good chat with a lady in the van who helped us with our bags. At Kowloon Tong I met up with my new companion, Sister Ho and so far she's super chill! We waited a bit for the van to take us to our area and then loaded all our stuff into it and rode into West Point. Once we got there we piled everything out of the van and into the apartment building and then the other sisters living in our apartment, Sister Robison and Sister Myers, came down to help us. We went up and put our stuff down and let me tell you, this apartment is pretty dang small. I thought that the Kowloon Bay apartment was kind of janky but I miss it so much now. In this apartment our sink is literally in the shower, there's no shelf space or hanging space for barely anything, and it's all around just very very small. I don't even know where I'm going to put everything, but I'm praying that I'll figure it out and everything will be okay 😄. We broke our fasts and ate some dinner and then headed to the West Point chapel for the elders to bless the sacrament for us. The chapel is so close! It's literally just down the street, it's so crazy. After having the sacrament, the elders gave us the run down of the area and it sounds like we have a lot of friends and potentials! I'm super excited to get started and see what we can do here. After that we went back to the apartment and then had an English lesson with a little boy named Jens. We read an article from the Friend magazine with him and talked about it and it was super fun! I was feeling pretty tired by the end of that day but it was still a great one!

That's pretty much it for this week, I'll be able to tell you more about my West Point experience in my next email but I hope you enjoyed this one! Now for a quick spiritual thought to give you something to ponder on.

Helaman 15:7-8 says,

7 And behold, ye do know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed it, that as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of the truth, and to know of the wicked and abominable traditions of their fathers, and are led to believe the holy scriptures, yea, the prophecies of the holy prophets, which are written, which leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a change of heart unto them—
8 Therefore, as many as have come to this, ye know of yourselves are firm and steadfast in the faith, and in the thing wherewith they have been made free.

Now these verses are talking about the Lamanites, but they can also be related to us. I love how it talks about the people being firm and steadfast in their faith. They get to this point by continuing to have faith and repenting, which brings a change of heart. I think that as we continue to try and grow our faith each day and continue to repent and work to be better and more Christlike, our hearts really do change. Our desires change and we will want to do more and more that will lead us to being closer to Christ. I know that having this mindset gives us that firmness and steadfastness of faith that is so important in our lives. I personally have seen how being firm can change people for the better. I know it's happened to me. I invite you this week to evaluate how firm and steadfast you are in your faith. What can you be doing better to become moreso?

I love you all so much and am so grateful for your continued love and support! I hope that you are being safe and smart in these challenging times 🙏 Send me an email anytime if you want to say hello!
